Quick Summary

Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide growth hormone secretagogue. It acts primarily at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also called the ghrelin receptor or GHS-R1a, and can stimulate pituitary GH release. It is frequently discussed alongside CJC-1295 because the two compounds act through different receptor pathways. That mechanistic complementarity is not the same as proof that the combination improves body composition, recovery, sleep or healthy aging.

Identity and Mechanism

Ipamorelin was developed as a comparatively selective GH secretagogue. Earlier GHRPs can also affect appetite, cortisol or prolactin pathways. Experimental research characterized Ipamorelin as more selective for GH release under studied conditions. Selectivity is a pharmacological property, not proof of broad clinical safety.

Human Research

Published human volunteer work modeled Ipamorelin pharmacokinetics and its GH response. Other clinical development explored intravenous administration in postoperative gastrointestinal settings. These studies do not create an approved wellness, weight-loss, recovery or anti-aging use. Study route, formulation, population and endpoint must be retained when results are summarized.

Ipamorelin and CJC-1295

CJC-1295 acts at the GHRH receptor, while Ipamorelin acts at the ghrelin receptor. The combination is commonly described as synergistic, but no dedicated clinical outcome trial has established that marketed CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin combinations improve muscle mass, fat loss, sleep or recovery. Claims should be labeled as pathway rationale unless directly supported by combination data.

Safety and FDA Status

Ipamorelin is not an FDA-approved drug. FDA compounding materials identify potential immunogenicity, aggregation, impurity and characterization concerns. FDA also notes serious adverse events, including death, in a study using intravenous Ipamorelin for gastrointestinal motility and states that safety information is insufficient for certain other injectable routes. Route-specific evidence should not be generalized.

Sports Status

Ipamorelin is included among growth hormone secretagogues prohibited by WADA. This status applies regardless of whether a product is described as a peptide, research chemical, clinic therapy or compounded preparation.

Evidence Gaps

  • No current FDA-approved therapeutic indication.
  • No dedicated CJC-1295 plus Ipamorelin clinical outcome trial.
  • Insufficient long-term safety evidence for popular wellness uses.
  • Uncertain identity and purity in products sold outside regulated channels.
